Pet-a-Palooza is an event we throw every year to celebrate pets and owners. It’s open to the public and includes loads of fun pet-friendly activities, and a smattering of education, too. We aim to increase awareness of the importance of pet health all in a fun-loving environment where questions are welcome and encouraged!
Targeted at kids age 10-15, our Junior Surgery Program gives them an inside look at the surgical process. Combined with our work with cat rescues, we assign each child a kitty patient to prep for surgery. We allow kids to clip the cats for a basic spay or neuter surgery, and then they are able to stay in the room while our expert veterinarian performs the procedure. Throughout the day, kids will learn about animal health and behavior, as well as how to get started on a veterinary career of their own.
To apply, we ask that kids write a short essay on what interests them about the Junior Surgery Program—is it an interest in becoming a veterinarian? Or maybe a zoologist, animal caretaker, or any number of animal-based careers? Or maybe it’s simply curiosity! We also require the parent or guardian to fill out an application form, as well as sign a waiver. For each program, we choose nine lucky applicants. Good luck!

Founded in 2018, Baby Gunn’s Animal Rescue is an animal rescue dedicated to saving pets from abandonment by finding them forever homes. They also work with sister rescues in the north, all with the mission of giving cats and dogs a second chance. All of their animals are fully vetted before adoption, meaning they are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm tested. If you’re interested in fostering, volunteering, or donating, contact them on Facebook.
