What Does Pet Wellness Care Entail?

Wellness care involves keeping your pets healthy year after year. It is designed to catch illnesses early and stop them in their tracks, and in some cases, prevent illness altogether. Our routine pet wellness care includes:

  • Annual physical exams
  • Fecal exams
  • Deworming
  • Parasite prevention
  • Heartworm testing (particularly important for our area)
  • Vaccinations
  • Disease screening
  • Diagnostic blood work

Each dog and cat is different and certainly won’t require all of these services every time they come in. We tailor our wellness care based on breed, condition, and of course, age.

Life Stage Care

Cats and dogs age much faster than we do, which means their needs can change dramatically in only a few years. Dr. Gatlin and her team develop life stage care plans that suit your pet and their unique needs.

Puppies & Kittens

During their first year of life, puppies and kittens are growing fast, and they need medical care that keeps up with all their changes! At their first exam, we’ll assess their overall health, perform a fecal exam to check for intestinal parasites, and give them deworming treatment if needed. We’ll also develop of vaccination schedule that helps them build up their immunity to dangerous diseases.

Adult Pets

Adults are in the prime of their lives, but that doesn’t mean they don’t need to see us! They’ll need regular vaccination boosters to maintain an immunity, as well as annual physicals to make sure they’re a healthy weight. In our area, heartworms are a serious concern, so we also perform regular heartworm tests to check that parasite preventatives are doing their job.

Senior Pets

Senior pets become more and more vulnerable. They may develop chronic conditions such as arthritis and are also more susceptible to diseases which can develop rapidly. We recommend regular blood work for senior pets to screen for disease so we address any underlying conditions immediately and lessen any suffering for your pet. Additionally, we’ll develop treatment and management plans for any chronic conditions so they can still enjoy an active and healthy life.
